Sweden’s Budget Jumbo Hostel

Called Jumbo Hostel, the aircraft is positioned at the entrance of the international airport Arlanda, Stockholm. It is the first airplane-hotel in the world and was built to run on land.

This is a Boeing 747, popularly known as jumbo. The Boeing 747 jet was a milestone for aviation 60s and kept the passenger capacity record for 37 years, when it was hit by Airbus A380.

Swedish entrepreneur Oscar Dios, who owns the hotel, bought in 2007 a 747 built in 1976, that was ‘leaning’ on airport Arlenda since 2002 and completely revamped it, with the intention of turning it into a hotel.

The 450 seats were ripped out and won a modern decor, but some original items, as in the cockpit, were preserved.

The hotel has 25 rooms with about six square meters and a 8 rooms with three meters. Including a luxury suite located in the jet’s cockpit, with a panoramic view of air traffic at Arlanda. In total, the Jumbo Hostel will accommodate 85 people with three beds in each room.

All rooms are equipped with flat screen TVs, where you can also check the departure times of all flights. Jumbo Hostel is only 10 minutes from the airport check-in area. The hostel offers wireless internet access. Bathrooms and showers are located in the hallways.

The manager says that the Jumbo Hostel is not just a hostel. The aircraft will be open to visitors, who can experience walking at a Boeing 747 wing. The next step will be to identify new business opportunities for the creation of a chain Jumbo Hostel. Take a look at the plane-hotel here.
